Especially farms that have committed to growing organically or even better bio-dynamically. Why? There are so many benefits to buying local: 1. You will receive the most nutritional bang for your buck. Local foods are the freshest and have the highest nutritional content. When fresh foods are shipped from halfway across the globe (even organics) they may lose nutritional value. 2. You will taste the difference. Go to your local organic farm and grab a piece of ripe fruit. Then go to a large grocer or a wholesale club. Bite into both and the taste difference. That alone should convince you that local is best. 3. You will reduce your pesticide, gas, and herbicide exposure. Do you really want to wait another 10 years for a report that says any food sprayed causes cancer? Have you ever struggled or been struggling with an issue that you can’t seem to get a breakthrough? I’ve been attending a seminar this week dealing with some of the blocks to healing. Let me preface by stating that this a very simplistic overview on this blog. Humans are complex and actual cases are as varied as the sand on the sea. There are four major categories that address the keys to releasing healing: 1. Sins of the Fathers and Resulting Curses- This basically means that there are negative tendencies or patterns that have been passed down from your ancestors through open spiritual doors. An example of this would be heart disease which runs in your family. This is not a blessing, but a curse. 2. Ungodly Beliefs- These are patterns of thinking that do not line with God’s word of who you really are. An example of this is “I will never lose weight”. 3. Soul Spirit Hurts- People are not perfect. Others will say or do things that cause you hurt. An example of this is if someone disrespects you in front of other people and you feel shame or hurt. 4. Demonic Oppression- It’s evident in the world we live that there are spiritual beings that hate and desire to destroy humans. An example of this is you have a physical problem and the doctors cannot identify where it comes from nor does any natural solution work. Here are a few examples of why you may not be getting the healing results you want: -You are trying to deal with a natural problem by natural means that is caused by a supernatural force -You desire healing but are unwilling to forgive which continues to block you from receiving from God -You keep wondering why you make the same mistake over and over, but don’t recognize there is an open door or curse passed down generational that must be closed The good news is that God is not against you. Have you suffered with allergies or even food intolerance? This is not your normal allergy, but chronic. Something you’ve had over and over and nothing else really seems to work. If that is you or you know of someone who has this problem, I have good news. While in prayer this morning, I believe God showed me that He desires to heal you. He also reminded me of the passage in Acts 10:38: “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power, and how he went around doing good and healing all who were under the power of the devil, because God was with him”. It’s Gods will to heal all, which includes you and everyone else. That is His nature. So if you struggle with allergies, just allow the Holy Spirit to bring healing to you as you read these words of life. Father, I thank you for touching people reading this right now or even listening to the video. Thank you for bringing life and healing to their bodies. I rebuke allergies and food intolerance. I command healing to come into your body in Jesus name. Now check yourself. A new study from mice consuming a super-nutrient extracted from a food revealed incredible findings. The group that consumed one super-nutrient had 25% fewer tumors compared to the control group. Even more astounding, the tumors in the mice that consumed the super-nutrient were 70% smaller than the control group. So what is this high octane skin shielding compound? It’s called glucoraphanin and it’s extracted from broccoli sprouts. Although glucosinolates are found in broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage and other cruciferous vegetables, the level of protection offered by the sprouts dwarfs them. Furthermore, what you may not know is that in addition to this study, there are about 500 other journal publications demonstrating the chemo-protective properties of broccoli and broccoli sprouts. Short of eating these little green critters daily, you could also supplement with a patented form of of the active compound of broccoli sprout sulphorophane glucosinolate (SGS). Now what if the results of this study actually got out into mainstream media? So what is it? No this nutrient is not some new wonder drug with side effects. It’s the mineral zinc. This is not a surprise. It is well known that zinc deficiency is prevalent in at least 2 billion people worldwide or a 1/3 of the population. Apply this percentage to US standards and that would equal about 100 million Americans. So what’s the big deal? Without this important mineral, your skin, veins, immune system, bones and most importantly and the major focus of this study, your brain, may be severely lacking. So where can you get it? Zinc is found in foods like pumpkin seeds, wild game, lamb, or wheat germ for example. Zinc can also be supplemented. Just make sure to get the chelated bis-glycinate version. How do you test for zinc deficiency? You go to an alternative medical doctor’s office and have a DEXA scan to test your bone density and project your future progression of deterioration. Then, if you come up short, your doctor will probably inform you need more zinc in your diet. Remember, most health issues later in life occur as a result of hip fractures from loss of bone. Since I frequently consult doctors on what they need to use for their patients, I felt it’s time to give you a behind the scenes peak as to what goes on with doctors. One of the questions the doctor asked is for a comparison of a multivitamin from a professional doctor brand versus a generic brand such as is found at retail health food stores or even online. Here is my response below (I took out names or associations for anonymity): Doctor…, Thank you for your recent post on (Association). You bring up an excellent question. Based on quality, price, and absorption comparison, what is the best value for a multivitamin. I wish the answer were simple. But it really depends. If you are looking for a high quality multivitamin that will be clinically effective, then I might be able to answer some of your questions. First, let me say there are some really great companies that have top-notch products (not just the company I recommend and consult). Sadly, there is a tremendous amount of hype in the supplement business and many companies that are very misinformed of the literature and scientific efficacy of higher quality forms of nutrients. For example, many companies use lesser quality ingredients that are potentially toxic in the body in their formulations. Also, some of the scientific literature reporting no benefits to supplements may be using lesser quality nutrients. Of course without looking in detail into the studies to see exactly what they were using, it’s difficult to know what is true fact on their outcomes results. Here are a few specific ingredients in multivitamins that are notorious for low quality but may claim or elude high quality on label: B12- Using cyanocobalamine versus the higher quality methylcobalamine. Many company’s use the former in their products because it is very inexpensive but is not as effective and may be potentially toxic. Magnesium- Using magnesium oxide versus chelated magnesium (preferably Albion chelates who hold the patents on mineral technology). For that matter, all minerals should be in their chelated form for maximum bioavailability if available. Folate- This is the big one and most controversial to date. Notice I mention folate and not folic acid. Please review the most recent article in Prevention Magazine, “Is Your BreakFast Giving You Cancer”- There are countless companies that are still using folic acid instead of natural folates. It’s a fact that one very well known supplement company has natural folate listed on their label, but when you look at the fine print it says “folic acid”. This is deceptive. The simple reason as to why companies have not switched is because it is about 10,000x more expensive to use true natural folates versus folic acid. The company I represent has made the investment to use natural folates for the sake of integrity even at a higher cost. To be fair there are a few other companies that have done the same and I applaud them for their honesty. These are just a few examples but as you can see, if you compare the cost,etc…of B12 of one company’s product to B12 of another company’s product or folic acid vs. natural folate, it is not apples to apples. It would also be difficult to do because they are simply not in the same class. For example, I cannot in good conscience say to a client, OK, I have one multivitamin that I know has lesser quality ingredients, but because it costs less, it may be a viable option for you compared to the higher quality more expensive multivitamin. I would have to tell them that the lower quality ingredients in the dosages listed on the label might be toxic. I may lose a sale of a supplement for telling a client the truth, but that is fine by me. I did what is right. The reason why I’ve chosen to work with Designs for Health is because they provide an abundance of clinical and scientific support for their formulations. They hold continuing educational seminars every single week with doctors from all over the country and have archived 400 plus hours in their online library. Not to mention 20 years success. They are also the only company I know of that has a relationship with several third party labs to verify their clinical effectiveness in terms of nutrients to treatment outcomes (some companies do testing but they own the lab..so I question the results?). According to Diabetes.org: -More than 23 million have diabetes with almost about 1/5 not having been diagnosed -There are over 57 million that are pre-diabetic -Cost of the disease is well over $100 billion -May cause heart problems, blindness, kidney failure, neuropathy, high blood pressure and more These are pretty sobering statistics. So what can you do? Here are a few ideas: 1. Get rid of the refined carbohydrates. These are found in packaged goods, cakes, candies, sugary soft drinks, refined sugars, sugar fruit drinks, and anything artificially flavored. An ungrammatically correct but truthful saying is “If it’s white, it ain’t right”. 2. Add berries to your diet every day. A new study from the British Journal of Nutrition shows berries are rich in polyphenols, anthocyanins, flavonols, and phenolic acid. What this mean is they protect your cells and blood sugar from getting out of control because of the delayed response of carbohydrate digestion and absorption. This study results indicate consuming berries may reduce the health risk factors for CVD and diabetes. 3. If you can’t get 4-8 servings of fruits or berries every day, supplement with a berry superfood. Berry superfoods are great because it’s like you’re getting 4 servings of fruits in a tablespoon of freeze dried powder. The combination of a variety of berries in this form is a powerhouse dose of goodness for your cells without added sugar, additional calories, or having to buy 10+ berries and consume them every single day. One of my doctor clients today told me about a product marketed to athletes for recovery. It’s called Boost. I researched this for her.
My Analysis of Boost #1 Water- Doesn’t even tell you what kind of water nor the amount. Is it tap, distilled, sewer? #2 Corn Syrup Solids- Another word for sugar and sister to high fructose corn syrup. This is devastating to your health. This turns off signaling in your brain that tells you, you are full. It damages your cells slowly. Think of it this way. If I offered you a glass of 99% water and 1% Round Up (a manufactured chemical used to kill weeds), would you drink it? The danger with corn syrup derivatives is you might not see the effects for years so you think everything is OK. BAM, you have diabetes or some other diagnosis from your doctor. #3 Sugar- No, this is not natural sugar from REAL FRUITS. Need I say more? Well, I will say more because I care about you. Sugar is linked to all forms of insulin resistance, diabetes, cardiovascular problems, obesity, overweight, cancer and more. #4 Milk Protein Concentrate- This is not really a food. It is a food stuff that is being slipped into many products. It’s like Elmers glue. They can’t use glue on the label because that would scare consumers, so they use MPC. I’m surprised officials allow this. Read more here. #5 Vegetable Oils- Omega6 Variety- The oils in Boost canola, sunflower, corn are pro-inflammatory. Give corn if you want to make an animal or human fat. You already get too much Omega6 in your diet especially if you eat out or use processed foods. About the only good Omega6 is GLA-Gamma Linolenic Acid not found in this product. GLA is found in hemp seed, borage, or evening primrose oils. Also not in this product are Omega3 which are anti-inflammatory found in ground flaxseeds and fatty fish such as salmon and cod liver oils for example. Bonus: Oh, I almost forgot to mention. Boost also has a food coloring dye called Red 3. What do you think happens to your intestinal lining after being pounded with Red 3? Lava gut. I could keep going on and on but I’m sure you don’t want me to bore you with all the details of why this product is a mess for your health. Keep in mind though that there are a plethora of products like this some of which you may consume. My Recommendation To The Doctor Getting back to our story today, I advised this doctor to get her patients on the doctor professional brand meal replacement that I recommend. I also consume myself in case you wonder if I practice what I preach. Check out the whey protein meal replacement powder which has individual packets or canisters of naturally sweetened vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate (there is also a dairy free version for those sensitive to whey): #1 Whey Protein- 17 grams of the most bio-available non-denatured whey protein from grass fed cows. Just about all protein products are denatured meaning the protein structures are not intact and lose beneficial properties described below. Unlike MPS glue in Boost, you can actually digest and absorb these proteins. The proteins are low temp heated so they preserve beneficial immune boosting properties found only in raw milk. #2 Fats- Only 1.6 grams of fat. But it’s the right kind of anti-inflammatory fat Omega3 found in flax seeds. Flax seeds are loaded with fiber and are really the super grains of the 21st century. #3 Carbs- Only 2.8 grams of carbs of which half is fiber! The other 1.7 grams is natural sugar. If you are an athlete or in sports, just blend or mix with a banana, apple, pear, berries to get natural sugars and up the carb content. If you are on a low carb diet this is perfect. Compare this to Boost which has 17 grams+ of unnatural sugars. #4 Sugars- The sugars are natural sugars and not artificially manufactured in a lab like those derived from corn in Boost. Also, the other ingredients at the bottom are only 1.7 grams as mentioned previously. These will not affect insulin levels like other unnatural sugars. #5 Vitamins- So many products have so called vitamins added. Did you know there is a difference? For example Vitamin B12 might be listed but there is a difference between methylcobalamin and cyanocobalamin. If you see methyl as is listed on this label, it is high quality. If you notice cyano, it is lower quality. #6 Minerals- The minerals in this product are chelated meaning they are extremely absorbable and bioavailable. For example, you might take 250mg of magnesium oxide which is a low quality form and only absorb and utilize a very small percentage say 5% or 12mg. If you take a chelated formulation of magnesium, you may absorb and utilize most if not all. #7 Glutamine- Well known for recovery especially after a workout. Glutamine is also precursor to Glutathione which is amazing at supporting the liver during detoxification processes. #8 CLA- CLA is an excellent fat burner. CLA is also present in whey protein sourced from grass fed cows. Cows that eat grass have much higher levels of Omega3 in their milk. #9 Immunoglobulins- Beneficial immune boosting properties for the GI include immunoglobulins and lactoferrin. Naturally build your immune system to fight off infections, bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens. #9 Brain Feed- Phosphaytidylcholine, Taurine, and Inositol are brain, liver, hormonal balance, sleep supportive, and stress reducing nutrients. #10 Digestive Enzymes- To help the body break down the proteins, fats, and carbohydrates for assimilation, digestive enzymes are included. How difficult would it be to consume caps or powder of all of these wonderful nutrients versus taking it in a meal replacement shake? Simply get blender or Vitamix and make your meal replacement smoothie for after workout or athletic event. Your body will immediately feel energized and nourished versus a load of Boost. There is so much bull-lony that goes on in the supplement business. I remember I walked into Health Expo East in Baltimore several years ago and was overwhelmed at the amount of so called “nutritional” companies marketing their products. There had to be thousands in that convention center each touting their benefits. But without true scientific backing, which is not often done in this industry, it’s all hype. I really applaud my doctor client for wanting to get her patients on the highest quality supplements only sold through health professionals. They have the integrity in their products that match the latest in scientific research, 3rd party independent testing, GMP certified which meets or exceeds the FDA’s requirements, and are guaranteed for purity, potency, and efficacy. They are not willing to sacrifice cheap ingredients to make a bigger profit, for their patients health.
